Specifically, what’s the point of this blog? Some people write them to create a collection of writings about a super niche topic. These people then attract others who feel similarly. They then can usually sell something based on these writings.
My blog does not have a niche, unless you consider the stuff I think about each day niche (which I guess is true). However, unless you’re a clone of me living one day in the past, this probably won’t be that interesting.
Despite not being for anybody but myself, this blog still feels like it is useful — at least for me. I’m enjoying writing it and afterwards I feel a sense of fulfillment. Why?
Yesterday I spoke to some friends who have recently started journalling. They mentioned how liberating it is to get those thoughts out of your head and onto paper. To be free of the circling thoughts for once! This is exactly how I felt when I started journalling.
However, after journalling for years I’ve become used to this feeling. I need a bit more guidance now. Which is why this blog has been useful. It asks: What if someone had to READ your journal?
This changes everything. It forces my nebulous thoughts and musings into a structure. Stories are shaped out of random events. A topic must be found and explored. It takes my journalling to the next level.
My entries aren’t mind blowing, nor are they really FOR anyone. I write them so that I am forced to think deeper about my day, activities, and thoughts. Plus, posting something each morning feels productive, which I like.
Maybe nobody will ever read these. But writing them with that “what if” in mind has been enjoyable… and who knows, maybe someone will show up here one day and find this useful.
